Itinerary
Day 1 – Arrival Verona, Italy.
Your guides will meet you at the Verona International Airport or Verona train station between 11- 2pm for the short transfer to our charming hotel in medieval Verona. Casual afternoon ride in the countryside before our brief orientation and first of many memorable Italian dinners.
Day 2 – Ride Verona to Plan de Corones.
Fantastic long endurance ride starting in the vineyards outside of Mezzocorona. We’ll follow superb, mostly traffic free flat paths before hitting the mountains west of Bolzano. There the road rises and falls as we wind our way deep into the heart of the Dolomites. Ride: 50-65 miles/4,450 ft+.
Day 3 – Plan de Corones TT LIVE.
The source of much pain and profanity for Giro riders in past years, the Plan de Corones time trial will be nothing less than a spectacle and spectacular. Grab the chairlift, a sausage and big beer for a day of non-stop race viewing on the Plan de Corones.
Day 4 – Plan de Corones to Merano.
Departing from the tour, we’ll spend the morning on some sacred climbs: Passo delle Erbe immediately followed by Passo di Eores and a well-deserved descent into the Adige Valley and our hotel in the mountain spa town of Merano. Ride: 60-80 miles/6,400 – 7,100 feet climbing)
Day 5 – Passo dello Stelvia.
It’s always best to start with the biggest. From Merano we’ll climb the classic ascent of Passo dello Stelvio with 45+ switchbacks, 24 km, 5,930 feet of vertical (average 7.4%). It’s considered one of the finest climbs in the region for many good and challenging reasons. Ride: 60 miles/9,250 ft.
Day 6 – Motirolo Mountain Stage Viewing.
We’re situated in the thick of the Giro festivities today riding from our hotel for stage viewing on the Passo Motirolo. Longer riders will have the option of a 60 mile/8,680 feet climbing circuit (Passo Aprica, Trivigno and Motirolo) almost ENTIRELY on the stage course before the pros. Ride: 30 – 65 mile options/4,500 – 8,600 ft.
Day 7 – Passo Gavia Stage Viewing.
Ride and watch from the scenic and challenging Passo Gavia today. We’re in a fantastic position to ride straight from the hotel onto the stage course for 75 miles of climbing and descending before the pros. Long option: Forcola di Ligino, Passo de Eira, Passo di Foscagno and the almighty Gavia. Ride: 45-90 mile options/4,600 – 11,450 ft.
Day 8 – Verona TT.
All the best and most beautiful riders will be in Verona, circling past the most historic monuments in medieval Verona. It will definitely be memorable and, possibly, the deciding stage of the Giro 2010. Get ready to soak up the energy of the final stage TT!
Day 9 – Homeward Bound.
After breakfast we’ll return you to the Verona airport or train station for your connections home. Grazie!
