Basque Country
Quiet Country Roads to the Bay of Biscay - Cycling’s Hidden Gem!
In the most south west corner of France along the Bay of Biscay and a stone’s throw from Spain is a hidden cycling gem and traditions that run deep . We first rode into the Basque Country in 2004 on a self-supported Raid Pyrenees trip . It was like entering a new country with a language and landscape unlike anything else we’ve seen in France. Since then, we return every year to enjoy the softer Pyrenean hills, hidden villages and spinning down the Basque coast. The endless loop rides and tiny rural roads lend themselves to a week or more of off-the-beaten path discovery. Add to that guiltless indulges into innovative farm to table meals produced by some of the world’s best chefs and you have the perfect setting for a more moderate intensity bike vacation.
